Travelling with animals
Travelling with dogs, cats and ferrets is possible only with a passport from 1st of October 2004 acting in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 998/2003 of the European Parliament and the Council on the animal health requirements applicable to the non-commercial movement of pet animals.
Transporting live animals in the cabin
The transport of animals in the cabin is limited. With the exception of an assistant dog, only small animals up to 5 kg may be taken on board. Usually only one live animal is carried on board during a flight unless specifically permitted otherwise by the carrier.
In this case a permission must be obtained in advance from the carrier and from the captain of the aircraft before boarding the aircraft. Detailed information can be found at your carrier.
Live Animals Regulations
Animal must be carried in a suitable leak-proof container, where it has to remain throughout the entire flight.
- 45x30x25 cm to place the container under the seat
- 40x40x40 cm to place the container on a seat (if allowed by carrier)
Larger animals may be transported in the cargo compartment of an aircraft. For further information, contact your airline.
Some kinds of animals, plants and their products are subject to CITES agreement and EU regulations. Further information on their protection when imported, exported and traded, go to CITES section on The Czech Environmental Inspection website.
